Event description

Description

Sue Thomas, Stacy O’Sullivan, Emily Hewitt and Katrina Legg, from the Richard Burton Archives, will explain how using the Archives within teaching has enhanced modules. They will demonstrate how Archive use can encompass many of Chickering and Gamson’s ‘7 Characteristics of Good Undergraduate Education’ principles, including ‘Encouraging Active Learning’.

The unique archive collections held in the Richard Burton Archives support the University’s learning, teaching and research activities. They are accessible to all. The collections include material documenting the University’s institutional history, as well as the industrial, social, cultural, political and educational history of Wales and beyond.

A visit to the Archives can take students/people to a new space (including our strong-rooms), give them a chance to get their hands dirty consulting archival material and build confidence in undertaking original research. The session will also showcase examples of impact in various academic disciplines, to demonstrate the versatile nature and numerous benefits of archive use in teaching and learning, including contributions from Dr Peter King (Public Health, Policy and Social Sciences, Childhood Studies) and Dr Steve McVeigh (Political and Cultural Studies).

In order to provide the best experience, each workshop can accommodate a maximum of 12 attendees. Therefore, early booking is advised to avoid disappointment.
