Event description

Description

A talk accompanied by music in the Oak Gallery at Bankfield, as part of our 'For King and Country' exhibition and events for 2018.

In 2015 Sam Sweeney, a member of Bellowhead and Leveret, was voted Radio 2’s Folk Musician of the Year. Several years earlier he had bought a violin which research by his father Chris showed was made by a Leeds man, Richard Howard. Howard was killed in 1917 while serving with The Duke of Wellington’s Regiment.

Sam played that fiddle in his successful touring show ‘Made in the Great War’ and now he and his father re-tell its story in the Regimental Museum.
