This is a one-day classroom based session which explores aspects of sampling and estimation that are particularly applicable to social (household) surveys.
Learning outcomes: By the end of the course, participants will be able to understand:
• the use of sampling frames;
• sample design and different sampling methods;
• estimation of simple statistics under various designs and their associated standard errors and confidence intervals; and
• the use of weights.
Method of delivery: This is a one day taught session, delivered at Newport and Titchfield ONS sites. This may be taken as a one-off module, or in combination with other modules as part of the SA Scheme.
Target audience: This is aimed at any ONS/GSS staff who are interested in increasing their knowledge and understanding of sample design and estimation in social surveys.
