Sanctuary Gig Night: One Year Anniversary

It's been a year since we started our monthly gigs, so we thought we'd celebrate by bringing back a load of the incredible artists we've had playing over the last 12 months. It will be an early advent affair - mulled wine, mince pies, a lot of fairy lights and at least 100 minutes of top quality live music.

Bringing you London's finest emerging artists from our beautiful church, St Johns Hoxton on Pitfield Street. This 1820's venue has the most incredible acoustics and stunning interior decor, including a beautifully painted ceiling. We've created a pretty special atmosphere here and its the people coming who really make this gig stand out from the crowd.

For our one year anniversary special we're excited to confirm...

Bethany Weimers: Her alternative folk with serious soul, hints of Kate Bush, Florence Welch and Laura Marling. Bethany's craft for storytelling is enriched by a background in composition (Guildhall MA) and audio restoration, producing something both ‘ethereal and enchanting’. Having had airtime on BBC 6 Music and live sessions on BBC Introducing, she’s had some incredible reviews and having played at the prestigious Towersey Folk Festival, O2 Academy Oxford and St George’s Liverpool she’s gathered a reputation as a stunning live performer. ‘A new national treasure in waiting?’ - A Musical Priority http://bethanyweimers.com

Valerio Lysander: British based Italian artist Valerio has become a familiar fixture on the London live scene, exciting audiences all around the city with his invigorating variety of baroque pop tunes. In 2016 he was among 10 nominees for Best Male in the Best of British Unsigned Awards. Valerio has been broadcast by BBC Introducing, performed at Ronnie Scott's, the Troubadour and Green Note, as well as at the International Music Fair of Genova, and Croydon Pride. http://www.valeriolysander.com/

My Northern Sky: Described by the BBC as having 'the voice of an angel… innocently flying to its falsetto on frail wings, but with the power to hit the listener like a juggernaut'. In this kind of intimate acoustic dynamic his beautiful threads of sound will leave you with film-like reflections and moments of pure beauty. mynorthernsky.net

Surviveika: The multimedia project of musician and artist Miles Peckover. Taken as a whole, the project follows characters and events in a fictional version of North America where a nuclear war has taken place. In its musical element, the songs are written from the perspectives of characters living through their experience of this parallel universe. In its visual element, the narrative of these characters is to be depicted as a series of graphic novels, released on Surviveika's Tumblr website. http://surviveika.tumblr.com/

Max Bandicoot: Bringing an original acoustic style somewhere between English Folk & French Rap, Max's songwriting has been deeply influenced by artists such as Mumford and Sons, Ed Sheeran, and French rappers like MC Solaar and Nekfeu. Max's live performances consist of him affectionately slapping Martine (his tiny guitar), a loop pedal and enough energy to make a lighthouse glow. Combine this with some incredible backing vocalists, and you have a room ignited with catchy rhythms and beautiful harmonies. http://www.maxbandicoot.com

Cerian: London singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Cerian, has been described as a cross between Kate Bush, Joni Mitchell and London Grammar. She has been a BBC Introducing featured artist and recently recorded with Radiohead on their latest album ‘A Moon Shaped Pool’. Cerian weaves together melodic vocals and rich harmony with a love of poetry and literature, her songs often quoting from legendary writers such as William Blake, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Jack Kerouac and Lewis Carroll to create heartfelt poetic musical journeys. http://www.cerianmusic.com
