Sanctus Live at Wells Cathedral
Event Information
About this Event
In these troubled times, the world needs to be uplifted and to be reminded of the vital role that our cathedrals and sacred spaces fulfil in relieving stress and enabling us to connect with our higher purpose. The Sanctus Project is sacred music re-invented for the 21st Century.
Seasoned session musician and saxophonist, Ian Close and film and TV composer, Dominic Beeton will be performing a full programme from their Sanctus Project. Ian has faithfully transcribed the vocal lines from early sacred music of the 12th and 13th Century and – supported by Dominic on pump organ, harmonium, shruti box and percussion instruments – has created an album called Sanctus. The result is a deeply spiritual and meditative experience whose natural home is the Cathedrals, Abbeys and Churches of Europe. Ian and Dominic have been touring with this album since January this year to critical acclaim.
In addition to playing music from their Sanctus album which has work from Hildegard, Adémar of Chabannes and Pérotin the Great, they will be showcasing new Hildegard material from Sanctus 2, and to welcome in advent, they will be performing traditional Christmas carols and tunes giving them the “Sanctus” treatment.
Early purchase is recommended if you would like to attend. All tickets MUST be purchased in advance. Tickets will not be available on the door.
Please note: Tickets are banded, and seats will be allocated by the Cathedral accordingly to allow for households/bubbles to be sufficiently socially distanced from each other and to ensure that all of the latest Government guidance is adhered to. Thank you for patience and understanding.
Programmes can be pre-purchased with tickets and will be on your seats on arrival.
