Description

Sandford Cascade Workshopstrengthening learning in museums and the historic environment

When: 9 May 2017, 10.30 - 15.00

Where: The Workhouse, Southwell, Nottinghamshire

This workshop is a chance for those working and volunteering in heritage education to hear how the Sandford Cascade project can help to encourage confidence and further development within heritage learning, enabling more sites and collections across the East Midlands to apply for the prestigious Sandford Award; an independently judged, quality assured assessment of education programmes at heritage sites, museums, archives and collections across the British Isles. Almost 500 sites have received an Award since the scheme began in 1978.

As part of our wider project activities, the Sandford Cascade Project facilitates visits between Sandford Award winning sites and sites aspiring to be Sandford Award winners in order to promote the sharing of good practice amongst the heritage learning community. Heritage sites in the region such as The Workhouse, Southwell, Lincoln Castle and Cromford Mills input into this process of cascading good practice by being a ‘host’ site for interested parties to visit and observe their learning provision. We are also fortunate to have the support of the Museum of London, Durham Cathedral and Darlington Railway Museum.

The project also supports the development of informal heritage learning activities through the Sandford Award for Informal Learning (SAIL).

Come along and find out how you and your site could benefit from:

  • peer support from educators at Sandford Award winning museum and heritage sites
  • inspirational case study visits to Sandford Award winning sites
  • free skills and best practice workshops
  • a bursary of £1000 to purchase educational resources, training and specialist advice
  • Continuing Professional Development opportunities

The Workshop

Meet learning staff and volunteers who have benefited from the Sandford Cascade project and have gone on to gain the Sandford Award themselves, and pick up some best practice tips from The Workhouse’s education team. The workshop is free and includes lunch and a tour of The Workhouse, a Sandford Award winning National Trust property. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/the-workhouse-southwell

Delegates who’ve attended our recruitment workshops have placed a high value on them as an opportunity to share experiences, learn from each other and to network with other professionals and volunteers involved in heritage education. I hope you will join us.

This workshop is open to heritage professionals and volunteers at museums and heritage sites in the East Midlands
