Event description

Description

Sandford Mill is the former Borough of Chelmsford waterworks and is now an Industrial Museum containing many fine examples of Marconi, Crompton, Hoffmann equipment and other local inventions.

It was returned to the then Borough Council in the 1980s and is now used by the Chelmsford Museum as a store and education centre for its industrial collections. The museum has items such as the Marconi Hut the first broadcasting station “Two Emma Toc”, Marconi marine equipment including radio equipment made in Chelmsford that would have been used on the Titanic, working Marconi TV Cameras and a number of interactive displays.

The site is very rarely open to the public and special permission has been granted to the “Friends of Chelmsford Museum” to run this event.
A knowledgeable local historian will give regular guided tours of the museum displays and the remarkable collection of equipment, most in working order.
