PAINTING DEMONSTRATION – COLOUR RELATIONSHIPS
D Contemporary Gallery is very happy to present artist Sarah Butterfield providing a painting demonstration at Grafton Street.
Come on a journey with Sarah to paint a little sunset-y picture from a big sunset picture that’s in the exhibition. On the way you’ll discover that the camera doesn’t photograph the colours that you see. So, to see colour better you will learn how to look abstractly and think complementary. You will discover how to add the bright lights of the city and keep the radiance of the colours in the sky – and so much more.
The competing glow of the electric lights of the city set beneath the fireworks of the sunset above, the soft lights of dawn catching fire as the sun rises, shallow waters at the ocean’s edge where light is fractured, the lights of a cafe in city bustle, the movement of sunlight over the surface of the river, bright beach light dissolving edges of the figure – all these are captured by Sarah’s brush. Her passion for the natural world finds expression with dashing, calligraphic brushwork that seizes the essentials and allows her colouristic patchwork to play in the onlookers’ eye.
Her paintings are owned by Jenny Agutter, Professor Brian Cox, Richard Curtis, John Humphreys, Charles Jencks, Rt Hon Michael Portillo, Lord Coe, HRH Prince of Wales, HM The Queen and Jon Snow.
Sarah has exhibited at major London galleries, including The Royal College of Art, Agnew’s, Cadogan Contemporary, Albemarle and Frost & Reed. She has also exhibited in New York, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Her work is in many public and private collections in Europe and America.
Sarah's exhibition will be on display from the 29th March - 11th April. Monday - Saturday 11am - 8pm.
