Sarai Cole – Recital (Hybrid Event)
Overview
Sarai Cole is an international soprano celebrated for her rich, powerful voice, drawing comparisons to opera legends such as Birgit Nilsson and Jessye Norman. As a Verdian and Wagnerian specialist, she has captivated audiences around the world with her heartfelt interpretations and commanding stage presence.
Most recently, Sarai performed as Elisabeth in a scene from “Tannhäuser” with the Boston Wagner Institute and portrayed Chrysothemis in “Elektra” with Dramatic Voices Berlin. She is currently covering the role of Sieglinde in “Die Walküre” with Regents Opera, further cementing her reputation as a sought-after dramatic soprano.
Her programme is titled “Wagner’s Women: Love, Muse, and Myth“. She will explore Wagner’s relationships with three women (Minna, Mathilde, Cosima) and the repertoire composed roughly during each period of his life. The selections will include excerpts from The Flying Dutchman, one or two of his French songs from his Paris years, Tannhäuser, Lohengrin, Die Walküre, and Tristan und Isolde.
The structure will weave short commentary between the musical excerpts, tracing how with each relationship there was an evolution of his musical language and his portrayal of women. From the human and domestic to the idealized and mythical.
