Event description

Description

PLEASE NOTE THESE ARE TWO-DAY PRACTICAL INTRODUCTORY COURSES - YOU ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND ON BOTH DAYS. ONLY THE FIRST DAY IS INDICATED ON THE COURSE SCHEDULE; DAY TWO TAKES PLACE ON THE FOLLOWING DAY.

Using ONS specific examples the course gives staff a practical and useful introduction to SAS. The course is suitable for anyone who wants to gain a basic grounding in SAS and may also be useful for those with some SAS experience.

The course aims are:

to give participants a better understanding of what SAS can do and how it can be useful to their work.

to provide participants with the 'building blocks' to go away and start using SAS in a way which is useful for their work

to (hopefully) pass on some good habits from the start.

In practice this means that following the course participants will be able to use SAS for data manipulation and to calculate basic statistics. Course content includes: SAS Datasets; reading and exporting data; creating variables; splitting and joining datasets; sorting and viewing data; conditional statements; summaries; tabulation; frequencies; basic macros; The course is classroom based with group discussions and exercises throughout.

There are no pre-requisites for this course and no knowledge of SAS is assumed, however the course is also suitable for those with some experience of SAS.

This is an internal ONS event and attendance is by invitation only.
