Sat 22nd January - Print Collective Open Access @ Turf
Event Information
About this event
Please book a spot via this Eventbrite if you'd like to do some risograph printing at our open access day on Saturday 15th January, 12-5pm.
If you are printing a zine or anything that requires 3 or more masters, please send us an email after registering so we can check timings and let you know when to come to have enough time to print. If your work will take especially long, we may recommend you book a private printing session instead.
Each ticket is for 1 individual or 1 small group of 2-3 people working together on a print.
** Important information such as deposit refund policy + cash you must bring on the day is detailed below in 'Key Info' **
Open access sessions are for anyone with experience of riso printing. If you'd like to learn to use riso, please register instead for one of our induction sessions.
If you'd just like to come along and watch and/or hang out without printing then you can just show up on the day. Please just be aware we have limited space and want to allow social distancing where possible, so may ask you to wait or come back later if we're especially busy.
If registering, it is important that you read the following:
Key Info
- This session is open to anyone who has printed with riso before, whether you've been inducted with us or elsewhere.
- There will be a facilitator there to help you set up your files, troubleshoot issues with the machines and answer any questions throughout the session.
- Your fee pays for 1 master stencil - i.e. 1-colour and 1-side, but as many copies as you want. It also covers the facilitator's time, and helps us make a contribution to artist-run space Turf (where our studio is located).
- You can split the cost with up to 2 people if you're working on something together. However, if your friend wants to come and print something of their own, they should register and pay separately.
- If you require more than 1 master stencil, you should bring extra cash (£3-6 per A4 master, £5-10 per A3 master, priced on a sliding scale of what you can afford).
- You should also bring your own paper, or some change to buy sheets from us (1-2p per sheet). Be aware though that we have limited stock and so to avoid disappointment, we recommend bringing your own. There is also WH Smiths or The Works nearby the studio.
- We have a regular A4 and A3 printer so you can print your originals (i.e. the design you'd then like to riso print). Bring your laptop or files on a USB. We also have pens and collage materials so you can experiment on the day, too.
Cancellations
If you register and then realise you can't make it, please cancel your ticket on Eventbrite at least 2 days before, or email us so we can open up your place to someone else. Please note that the £1.76 booking fee to Eventbrite is non-refundable.
Location & Access
Our current studio is located at Turf Projects in the Whitgift Centre.
The address is 46-47 Trinity Court, Whitgift Centre, Croydon CR01UQ
If you enter the Whitgift Centre from Wellesley Road, near bus stops WL and WM you'll be on the ground floor and will see Turf on your right.
Enter here and ask someone at the desk to direct you upstairs to find us. Alternatively, you can take the escalator or lift up to the 1st floor floor and come into the shopfront currently marked as Croydon Arts Store (CAS) where you'll find us in the studio to your right, at the back.
Our space is wheelchair accessible if you take the elevator up to the floor above the Turf Projects entrance. Contact us for more information and if you have other access requiments or questions. Our email is: dsflprintcollective@gmail.com
Good to Know
Both of our machines (A4 and A3 riso printers) are secondhand and like all Risos, they act up sometimes. We'll do our best to mitigate any issues but there can be hiccups on the day. Our A3 printer currently has a very specific issue and is especially unrealiable but facilitators do have a way of getting it to work, it just requires an extra large dose of patience.
Any other questions?
Please email us: dsflprintcollective@gmail.com
Be aware that administrative work for Print Collective is done voluntarily in our spare time so we may not reply immediately.
We look forward to printing with you!
