About this event
Let's get creatively empowered in the Main Gallery with Saturday Art Club. For these special iterations, you can use the space and wall of the gallery to make and to display your creations! Play, explore, and learn about yourselves and the world around you through arts and craft activities.
Join Associate Artist Raisa McClarey-Francis for this weekend's SAC involving creating collage self-portraits by using magazines, newspapers and scrap materials. The session will focus on expressing our identities, and exploring different textures and colours that represent ourselves and our cultures. This workshop is inspired by the values of 4UBU which focuses on "nurturing and creating networks of mutual support and shared enquiry."
In response to 4UBU, we are inspired by the framework of the Black supplementary school movement from the 1960s supporting Black British children, organised on a volunteer basis by parents, teachers, churches and community groups. Be a part of our SAC community, where we value the cultures and knowledge generated from children and families not taught within school curriculums. On reflection of the benefit of grassroots and community-led education that sits outside formal mainstream schooling, these accessible creative workshops should provide an opportunity for the whole family to learn new skills, use their pre-existing knowledge, and learn about aspects of Black culture.
Everyone is welcome! Please book a ticket for each attendee.
