Description

Dress For the Weather - Field Trips

Join Dress for the Weather for their series of tours and workshops that aim to develop a study of how co-design in architecture can shape the language and style of buildings. This will be studied through different approaches to contextual practice with walking workshops asking participants to record and study the city in different ways.

The tour element will focus on key architectural languages throughout Glasgow and discuss key buildings by architects including Gillespie Kidd + Coia, Mackintosh and Thomson while allowing participants space to practice various techniques in site reading and recordings.

These recordings will take a different influence for each workshop from Situationist and Letterist theory, contemporary art practice and sustainable practices such as material re-use and waste reduction. A city walk of 2-3 hours will start and finish at Civic House where a workshop will distil the day’s findings into an exhibition or show piece for discussion with groups from other workshops. This could be a large-scale montage, video footage, experimental drawing or an output devised by the group itself.

FEB 16 - A Glasgow Subway Derive

The spin of a wheel will decide the route for this tour of the city’s subway. Each stop will then follow the idea of a Situationist Derive and the walks recorded through various media. A workshop at Civic House will use the recordings to construct a montage of video, drawing, print and sound.

Saturday School is a day of creative workshops.

Every month, we will fill the spaces of Civic House with workshops led by practitioners working across mixed disciplines. Our aim is to create a stimulating environment for testing new ideas, learning through making and sharing skills and knowledge.

Spend the day developing a new skill, exploring a practice or learning about new topics and subjects. Then, from 7pm share a meal with everyone who's taken part in the workshops served by the Civic House Kitchen team.

From 8pm onwards, Civic House will host AFTER SCHOOL CLUB, an evening of performances and live music with HEALTHY and friends. These evening events are free for workshop participants and open to the public.

Tickets are now available for the following Saturday Schools:

FEB 16
