Description

Glasgow Tool Library

Each month, Glasgow Tool Library will lead workshops that introduce you to different carpentry tools to use in various woodcraft techniques. Workshops are themed according to what objects you make, from toys to outdoor furniture. Whilst learning how to make different objects, participants will be encouraged to think about the workmanship, time, energy and materials it takes to make things. By using reclaimed and sustainable materials, each participant will come away with a more considered understanding of the types of products they consume, and how to make the most out of what is usually considered waste.

These workshops are kindly supported by the Climate Challenge Fund.

NOV 16 - Form Follows Function

In this workshop participants will design and build their own table to take home with them. We will begin by taking inspiration from a range of conventional modernist designs and then review the materials available to assess the best construction methods. You will get a taster of how to use tools like: chisels, block planes, combination squares, sliding bevels, marking / mortise gauges and a variety of hand saw such as tenon, coping, compass, panel and pull saws.

DEC 14 - Play Time

Get in the festive spirit and design your own toy or gift to construct using only sustainable or reclaimed materials. Whlst building your own 3-D design, engage in discussions around how to enjoy a more sustainable festive period by reducing waste.

Saturday School is a day of creative workshops.

Every month, we will fill the spaces of Civic House with workshops led by practitioners working across mixed disciplines. Our aim is to create a stimulating environment for testing new ideas, learning through making and sharing skills and knowledge.

Spend the day developing a new skill, exploring a practice or learning about new topics and subjects. Then, from 7pm share a meal with everyone who's taken part in the workshops served by the Civic House Kitchen team.

From 8pm onwards, Civic House will host AFTER SCHOOL CLUB, an evening of performances and live music with HEALTHY and friends. These evening events are free for workshop participants and open to the public.
