We are delighted to announce that Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud will deliver SAVE’s 50th anniversary lecture at the V&A on 25th November.

The broadcaster will call for radical changes to the way we value and protect places people love.

The UK demolishes more than 50,000 buildings every single year, often at huge cost to their communities and the environment.

Through the stories of places that were once threatened – from Grand Central Station to Sheffield’s Park Hill – Kevin McCloud will show that what we save is far more than just bricks and mortar. In his ‘manifesto for the imagination’ he reveals the power of reinvention.

Kevin McCloud is a designer, writer and broadcaster who has presented Channel 4’s Grand Designs since its launch in 1999. He often presents the RIBA Stirling Prize and House of the Year coverage – and most recently fronted Kevin McCloud's Rough Guide to the Future.

We are grateful to the V&A for hosting the event. It is a fitting location for our 50th anniversary lecture. SAVE was founded after a landmark exhibition at the V&A in 1974 called The Destruction of the Country House. With its “hall of destruction” it drew attention to the fact that country houses were being demolished in the 1970s at the rate of one a week, triggering a huge public outcry.
