The FAO Global Record of Fishing Vessels: A tool to champion fisheries transparency globally
About this event
Join the EU IUU Fishing Coalition* at this link for the launch of our latest study and an interactive discussion showcasing the state of play and importance of the FAO Global Record of Fishing Vessels, Refrigerated Transport Vessels and Supply Vessels (Global Record) and how to improve engagement with the system.
This event will highlight the important role that the Global Record can play in tackling illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and improving fisheries transparency worldwide. We will discuss the current level of EU Member States’ engagement with the Global Record and provide an overview of the performance of some of the EU’s key international partners.
The presentation of our latest study will be followed by an interactive panel discussion where we will discuss the state-of-play of Global Record use, the challenges States may face when engaging with the system and ways to improve engagement with the Global Record over the coming years.
This event will bring together the The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), EU Member States, non-EU countries and other stakeholders for an informative and forward-looking discussion. The audience will also have the opportunity to ask questions to the panellists.
The panel is made up of:

David Poderoso Godoy, Head of Fisheries Management Area, Fisheries Surveillance and Fight against Illegal Fishing Unit, Spanish Fisheries Ministry
Courtney Farthing, Director, International Policy, Global Fishing Watch
