About the rally: The #SaveOurApprenticeships campaign against devastating cuts in apprenticeship funding was launched at the Houses of Parliament earlier this month to a packed gathering of sector leaders and senior politicians — including the minister tasked with implementing the plans.
For Labour Party conference 2016 we’ve ditched the traditional fringe format and instead will be holding a rally against these Government cuts.
FE Week’s exclusive analysis revealed funding for 16- to 18-year-olds in some of the most deprived areas of the country would be slashed by up to 50 per cent. Earlier this month more than 50 MPs, led by Tottenham’s David Lammy, signed a letter urging the Government to reverse the cuts.
Shadow Skills Minister Gordon Marsden will be joined by fellow MPs and sector leaders to send a clear message to government that these cuts are unfair and will disadvantage 16-18 year-olds.
The event will be a great opportunity for MPs and other conference attendees to hear first-hand about the consequences of these cuts on the front line, which can then be used on the floor of the House and in the media.
Please note that a photo-call will be arranged for 18:45. We would like to encourage as many Labour MPs and members to attend in-time for this. RSVPs are not essential but will help with our planning to ensure a high-imapct rally.
