Event description
This workshop aims to raise awareness and develop skills in working with someone who is contemplating suicide.

About this Event

‘I just cope any more – there is nothing left to live for’. In our work as staff and local councillors, we may encounter people who are contemplating suicide because of the often multiple challenges facing them.

. In the workshop we will discuss:

• The demography of suicide – age groups, occupational factors, gender and so on

• Risk factors in suicidal behaviour

• Risk Assessment and signposting for specialist help

• Working with someone with suicidal feelings - The Do and the Don't.

• Staying safe – developing a safety plan

• Working with bereavement

Our facilitator is Ben Bano, from Telos Training Limited and Welcome Me As I am (Community Interest Company). Ben runs a series of Suicide Awareness Workshops that are being commissioned by Kent County Council's Saving Lives Fund. This initiative has received funding from NHS England. Ben is also a Councillor on Deal Town Council.

Registration for the event is at 1pm with light refreshments followed by a two hour workshop. We should finish by 3:30pm.
