Event description

Description

The construction industry matters to the UK economy, employing over two million people and representing 9% of the UK’s GDP. But it’s an industry that suffers unparalleled levels of illness, with over 80,000 workers suffering from work-related ill health each year. Many firms are failing to comply with their legal obligation to provide health surveillance (repeatable medical checks) for their workforce. Significant improvements in ‘safety’ over the past 40 years have not been replicated in ‘health’.

To explore these issues in greater detail, the Scottish Building Federation is holding a joint conference with B&CE on health in construction. B&CE is a not for profit organisation, firmly rooted in the construction industry, and is currently developing a digital health scheme for the sector which will enable firms to meet their health obligations more easily.

You will hear from some organisations involved in the build of the People’s Health tool and how you can get involved to help shape the future of occupational health in our industry.
