Scala Essentials Workshop
Fri 7 April 2017, 08:00 – 18:00 CDT
The Scala programming language has been rapidly growing in popularity over the past 5 years and is quickly becoming the hot new language of Big Data with the rise of Spark.
The Scala Essentials Workshop is an accelerated introduction to the most essential features of the Scala language, libraries, and tooling for those who want a hands-on practical learning experience. All experience levels are welcome and encouraged to attend.
We will guide attendees through the basics of the Scala language, its standard library, all the way through to writing, debugging, and testing a simple REST server. Attendees should expect about half instructor lead content with plenty of live coding and live demos, with the rest of the time dedicated to hands-on exercises. But do not fear! TAs will be on-hand to answer any questions and provide guidance as needed.
For more information about the event, along with links to the course schedule, see the event page.
Seating is limited and likely to sell out quickly! Don't wait to buy your ticket.
We would be grateful if attendees arrived with the following software already installed:
- JDK8u91 or newer
- IntelliJ IDEA 2016.3 or newer (community edition is fine)
- Scala plugin for IntelliJ IDEA
- SBT (which can be downloaded from http://www.scala-sbt.org/download.html)
Attendees will need a Github account. If you don't already have a Github account, then create a free account here: https://github.com/join.
