Since 2006 I've been working as software engineer specializing in solving hard problems and creating great software. My focus has been writing reliable, performant, resilient, and scalable software on the JVM.I've been working with Scala for the past threeyears both professionally and in my spare time.

The Scala programming language has been rapidly growing in popularity over the past 5 years and is quickly becoming the hot new language of Big Data with the rise of Spark.
The Scala Essentials Workshop is an accelerated introduction to the most essential features of the Scala language, libraries, and tooling for those who want a hands-on practical learning experience. All experience levels are welcome and encouraged to attend. 
We will guide attendees through the basics of the Scala language, its standard library, all the way through to writing, debugging, and testing a simple REST server. Attendees should expect about half instructor lead content with plenty of live coding and live demos, with the rest of the time dedicated to hands-on exercises. But do not fear! TAs will be on-hand to answer any questions and provide guidance as needed.
