Event description

Description

How can fast growth, scale-up businesses scale their culture ?

The West of England is recognised as a great place to start a business, but one of the biggest challenges reported by businesses who are scaling up is 'access skills and talent'. Specifically, founders describe the challenges of attracting great people to their growing brand, particularly B2B and talk about the shortage of 'mid level' tech talent and senior leaders with experience of scaling up.

Underpinning this theme is the challenge of scaling organisational culture - from a small founding team to a large national or international company, the culture of an organisation is at the heart of the people that are drawn to work there, and who continue to champion that cause.

As Scale-up Enabler for the West of England, I work to help founders and supporting organisations to share great practice, learn from one another and to network together.

At the event we will ask questions such as:

  • What strategies work best for creating and scaling organisational culture?
  • What are the implications of culture on recruitment and retention?
  • What role does your brand presence and awareness play in your ability to scale?
  • How can you represent your culture most effectively in the public domain?
  • How much of culture is owned by the team or a product of management?

Our hopes for the event:

  • To bring the community of scale-up businesses and support together
  • To explore the challenges that scale-up businesses face in relation to skills, talent and culture
  • To identify potential solutions and commit to actions that could resolve those challenges

Who should attend?

A scale up is technically defined as a company with 10+ employees growing 20% year on year but we believe it's important, for these events to bring the scale up leaders and aspiring leaders together to share and learn so we invite founders and employees of businesses who are on the growth curve to join us.

It is organised by our regional Scale-up Enabler, Briony Phillips in partnership with TechSPARK and SETsquared Bristol.

Scale up Briefings are organised by our regional Scale-up Enabler and Engine Shed Associate Director, Briony Phillips. Employed in partnership by the West of England Growth Hub and Engine Shed, Briony works to build a shared understanding of the challenges faced by scaling companies, to highlight what exists to respond to these challenges and identify where the gaps are. By working openly and collaboratively with colleagues across the public and private sector, we hope this work will support our mission to support our growing, inclusive and sustainable economy.
