______________

Call for nominations to attend a high-impact course which will stimulate economic growth through scaleups in your local area, 19th - 21st September 2016, Manchester.

This is an invitation from the ScaleUp Institute to apply to join a very special training course designed to help you deliver economic growth in your Local Community. This course, which would normally cost $3,500, is being offered free of charge for participants that are selected.

The programme will consist of interactive lectures, exercises, case discussions, and participant application groups and presentations.

The UK programme will be delivered by Professor Daniel Isenberg, of Babson College, who is one of the world’s leading authorities on entrepreneurship ecosystems and is a pioneer in developing practical methodologies for fostering entrepreneurship ecosystems leading to successful economic growth. The Institute is delighted to be delivering this in partnership with the Goldman Sachs Foundation and 10,000 Small Businesses UK.

Participants on the programme will learn to:

  • understand the concepts and principles of local and national entrepreneurship ecosystems and their relationship to national economic growth

  • inform and align participants in a collaborative process around what it takes for a business ecosystem to encourage a greater number of companies to achieve high growth businesses

  • teach a high-impact concept of entrepreneurship tied to economic growth, regardless of business age, location or sector

  • understand the concepts and principles, and provide concrete examples, of how entrepreneurship ecosystems can be accelerated in a way that is self-sustaining

  • provide the participants with the tools and setting to develop an action plan for launching independent regional Scaleup projects

  • measure and demonstrate the impact of focused Scaleup projects and to create a long-term sustainable local and regional UK scaleup environment

  • ensure that entrepreneurship ecosystems are supportive of high growth businesses, enabling the increase of ‘scale-ups’ by number and size.

The ScaleUp Institute will notify you by noon on the 5th August 2016 if you are successful in your application to join this cohort. In the event of over-subscription, we may require you to attend a phone interview.

For those that are selected as eligible to be participants nearby hotel accommodation will be provided from 19th-20th September inclusive along with lunch and dinner.

In the event that we are unable to accommodate you on this course, please be aware that you may still choose to attend the publicly available course which is run at Babson University in Boston. You can find out more here about it here: http://www.babson.edu/executive-education/open-enrollment-programs/driving-economic-growth/Pages/home.aspx

Feedback from participants on the last Course held in Birmingham in May 2016.

  • Change of thinking - “I loved the way the course just completely changed my way of thinking from SME's to Scale Ups”

  • Valuable to career - “Very effective, without doubt the most valuable and stimulating course I have attended in my current career.”

  • Cross-regional Collaboration - “Good as a catalyst for cross-regional collaboration. Very good way of becoming immersed in the task, and for creating and sharing the vision.

  • Helpful case studies - “The case studies were excellent - really thought provoking and led to fascinating discussions and comparisons with our own geographic area.”

  • Challenged attitudes - “Useful opportunity to challenge prevailing attitudes on how business support should be organised and targeted in local areas.”

  • Provided direction - Provided clear direction on how I can support the scale up businesses in this cluster and influence overall support environment

  • Fruitful discussion - “Provided great food for thought to take back to our respective "ecosystems" for discussion.”

  • Dan Isenberg-I found Dan an inspirational speaker - not often do we get the chance to hear someone so credible and experienced in their own field, willing and able to share their knowledge (warts and all) with the audience.”

  • Idea generation - “Sharing of ideas amongst our working groups , and abstraction of the ideas introduced through the sessions to our own regional and sub-regional contexts.”

  • Understanding the eco-system - “Building a better overview of the key components of an ecosystem and understanding how supporting scale-ups can improve your economy.”
