Event description

Description

SCALES is the first competition law research centre to be based in a Scottish academic institution. This is important and timely because of the enhanced focus on competition law practice in Scotland and the development of a significant CMA office here, and the potential implications for competition law and policy development in Scotland following Brexit and/or IndyRef2.

SCALES brings together a number of academics in the School, and beyond, who are interested in teaching, studying, research and scholarship generally in antitrust/competition law, and specifically in relation to empirical research in competition law.

The launch of SCALES gives an opportunity for the wider competition community to come together to explore the potential for future collaboration and we are delighted to have two excellent speakers, with Dr Brook of Leeds Law School discussing the significance of empirical competition law research in her work. The keynote speaker , Prof Richard Whish, the 'guru' of UK competition law and the most renowned, respected and admired competition law academic world-wide will share his thoughts on competition law developments with particular reference to the Scottish context.

The SCALES launch event is proudly sponsored by Shepherd and Wedderburn.
