Scaleup Corporate Venturing event
Wed 26 April 2017, 14:30 – 18:30 CEST
With the support of the Agentschap Innoveren & Ondernemen, Sirris and Agoria run the Scaleup project. In this event we dive deeper into one approach to scaling ventures and new technology: corporate venturing.
14h30 Welcome & registration
15h00 Introduction, Carine Lucas, Agoria
15h10 Corporate inspiration 1: Guy Van Wijmeersch, Director Innovation and Design Thinking, Barco
Barco has innovation in its corporate values. As such, we are looking continuously into new ways to extend our innovation capabilities. Internal venturing is something we have done often in the last 25 years, creating new businesses from within and some are very successful like Clickshare. Because of the expanding and ever shorter development and maturing cycles of technology and disruptions of new business models, we are looking into new ways of venturing as we are now doing with startups, and this out of need to learn and technology change.
15h40 Corporate inspiration 2: Toya Dilles, Innovation catalyst @ Home for Innovation BNP Paribas Fortis
Today the world changes faster than ever. BNP Paribas Fortis offers an answer to this challenge with ‘Home for Innovation’, an internal incubator founded in 2015, that encourages innovation in the bank as much as possible. Not only by facilitating this process internally from ideation to implementation, but also by connecting with the ecosystem outside of the bank.
In this talk they will present their approach and the lessons learned until now.
16h10 Startup inspiration: Industrial applications (manufacturing, automotive)
5 startups, in different stages of scaling up, and active in diverse application fields will pitch their offering:
Arkite: Despite huge automation, many operations are still manual and thus more susceptible for error than machines. Until now it was not possible to quality secure the whole production cycle. Arkite introduced a new product: Human Interface Mate (HIM), the ultimate “Virtual Guardian Angel”. HIM is looking over the shoulder of the manufacturing operator warning as soon as a wrong operation is in progress with respect for privacy. The product works contactless based on 3D sensor technology with smart workflow software. HIM helps operators make less mistakes. As an additional benefit HIM will navigate any unexperienced operator through projection to perform his actions in a correct manner thus reducing the learning curve. HIM eliminates any use of manual control checklists.
Arkite’s Human Interface Mate was first officially launched in May 2016. The board today and management team are composed of industry experts in the domain of manufacturing and computer vision. Next to the management team, Arkite NV can rely on a strong team of 11 employees.
DataStories: DataStories International is a Belgian startup specializing in advanced predictive analytics for new product design, customer intelligence, operational excellence, and content analytics. We created DataStories.com - the first fully automated platform for data-driven decision making. Spreadsheet owners can now upload the data, select their Key Performance Indicators, and receive back an interactive data story report and presentation about what drives their KPIs and how to optimize them.
E-business Cloud: E-business.cloud is the next generation B2B e-commerce platform. We create an online community where manufacturers, distributors and customers collaborate on their projects. Our lightning-fast platform, with at its heart a revolutionary product configurator, makes complex projects easy to manage. Our goal is to simplify and streamline the overall sales process. The reduction in complexity drives sustainable growth for all parties involved.
Rombit: Founded in 2012, Rombit has grown into an expert in the Internet of Things, with integrated solutions for smart cities, smart industries and smart enterprises. The company starts from existing IT infrastructures and rapidly attains efficiency gains thanks to its technological framework Romcore.
In 2014, VOKA cited Rombit as the Most Promising Starter. A year later, Trends crowned the company Starter of the Year. In 2016 Rombit completed a successful series A funding. Following the recent acquisition of security specialist Sercotec, the fast-growing company will surpass 50 employees.
Twikit: Twikit sets a new standard for how brands design and create products: customizable, production-on-demand, and digital. Twikit’s goal is to create superior 3D customization for brands enabled by the Twikbot software platform. We work together with companies to help them step into customization by developing seamless end-to-end solutions from ideation to integration. Our unique strength is that we integrate digital manufacturing and customization into any business model. The core differentiator of Twikit is the combined knowledge of software development, product design and engineering.
