As an experienced primary school teacher and leader, I work with young people with wide ranging abilities everyday. As coaches, we also work with people young and old with a wide range of abilities. Within the old coaching programmes and wider professional development workshops, there is some excellent material to develop coaches' ability to work with archers with physical disabilities. However, as a Senior Coach and Coach Developer, I have identified a lack of material available to develop coaches' understanding of Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD). My session - Coaching Archers with Specific Learning Difficulties - is written to fill this gap. I aim to give coaches an overview of a range of SpLDs, describe how these can affect an archer's experience and provide some suggested strategies to support archers with SpLD.
