Many sustainability professionals talk about a transition to the circular economy. But what does that look like in practice? To what extent is it different from just recycling?
In this jargon-busting workshop, we’ll explore how to practically apply the ideas of circularity within your organisation. We’ll also dive into why it matters, examining what really goes on in the UK’s waste system, how different materials are made, and the supply chains that affect our resources.
Kirsten Zoe Smith, Net Zero Strategist at Recorra, will guide you through:
- The concepts and thought behind the ‘circular economy’
- The critical decision points to apply circular practices in your business
- How businesses – and the government, are addressing single-use materials
Expect plenty of visuals, real-world objects, and interactive elements - including a chance to ‘Test the Trainer'! Whether you’re new to sustainability or looking to build on what you’re already doing, this constructive session will help you decipher circularity.

About the Southwark Climate Collective
The Southwark Climate Collective is a partnership project led by Better Bankside, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and supported by the Mayor of London. In 2024 the project supported 141 SMEs on their net zero journeys, achieving a range of outcomes, from energy savings and increased recycling rates to improved processes and management practices.
In the 2025-6 phase, the project is being expanded to support a wider cohort of SMEs across Southwark to prioritise climate action, through bespoke consulting support, a programme of expert-led training, Carbon Literacy Training and a suite of online resources.
