SCCR ONLINE CONFERENCE 2021- Bringing Light to Find Each Other in the Darkness workshop with Cyrenians Mediation & Support and Focus Ireland

About this event

After months of Covid and lockdowns, the need to reconnect has never been stronger. Shutting away from 'normal' life has had numerous knock-on effects for individuals, families and society, which we are just beginning to find the time and the space to deal with. We are now leaving our homes and returning to workplaces; we are seeing friends and family; we are rediscovering the joys of everyday life. It is a time of opportunity and reflection; as we start off on our journeys of healing, we are all learning first-hand the power of reconnection.

Cyrenians' SCCR's 2021 Free Online International Conference takes as this year’s theme ‘The Power of Reconnection’. Reconnection may mean many things to different people – reconnecting with loved ones, reconnecting with causes, or simply reconnecting with oneself. As isolation has exacerbated familial and societal fault lines, we have a pressing question to answer: how do we ensure reconnection, both at home and across society, can form a first positive step on a truly global journey of healing? Our programme of free online events will bring together speakers and collaborators to share their wealth of experience. Together we'll examine how we grow strong positive relationships and reconnect with our family, friends, ourselves, and the wider society through interactive workshops, discussions and the arts. Please feel free to sign up to as many as you wish!

Bringing Light to Find Each Other in the Darkness - Cyrenians Mediation & Support and Focus Ireland Workshop

This interactive workshop is on the 28th October at 10:00 is with Cyrenians Mediation and Support Service and Focus Ireland. Hope is being able to see there is light despite all of the darkness - Desmond Tutu. This workshop will facilitate a discussion with experienced mediators and ask a number of questions, about how we can shed light on seemingly dark situations. What do we mean when we say we use listening understanding and hope in what can feel like very complex sometimes hopeless situations to help families understand and reconnect with each other.

Cyrenians Mediation and Support Service support young people and families to manage disagreements confidently and respectfully. They are a well-established mediation and support service with many years’ experience and have helped thousands of families work through normal everyday disagreements. Their Mediators and Family Outreach Workers provide a service to fit each family, finding a way forward together that works for everyone. Building strong relationships makes it easier to sort out difficulties and is an important part of feeling safe and happier at home for everyone. The Mediators help families talk to each other in a positive way without making judgements or telling them what to do. They listen to concerns and help people understand each other better.

Focus Ireland is a nonprofit organisation based in Dublin, that provides services for people who are homeless and people at risk of homelessness . It was founded by Sister Stanislaus Kennedy in 1985, and is one of the largest housing and homelessness organisations in Ireland. Focus Ireland has been operating a mediation service in Dublin since 2017. It is a homeless prevention service aimed at young people under 18, whose relationships with their carers are in danger of breaking down. The service also works with young people who are already in care placements but where these placements are at risk due to relationship problems.

This event will be delivered on the online platform Zoom. If you book on to the event you will be sent the details via email on how to join nearer the time to the event when bookings have closed.

Please note Zoom offers video capability so you can join with your webcam on, but this is entirely up to you and this option can be turned off. However we would love to see your faces and feel it is a more interactive experience with videos on.

We hope to see you online soon!
