Discover the Power of Scent and Memory

Have you ever walked in a garden, a forest with leaves crunching underfoot or watched smoke curl in crisp mountain air and been stopped in your tracks by a heady aroma that you wish you could bottle.

Do you love the smell of the ground after a shower of rain, apples baking in the oven or the pungent fragrance of warming spices and pumpkins?

Have you ever succumbed to the power of a smell, so evocative, emotive and familiar, that it brings you back to a different time and space?

Have you ever associated a particular fragrance with a person and felt warm, safe and comforted just by having it near?

Create a Unique Seasonal Gift with Meaning

In a one day workshop we are blending the art of candle making with storytelling and we can help you to identify your favourite autumnal scents whilst retaining the memories and nostalgia that make them so special.

Come along and let us help you to use creative writing to record your experiences, along with the people and places that make them unique, then imbue your candle with reminiscences and love.

Take home your hand made novelties or make them as a seasonal gift and add a story to your chosen scent…

Sharron McHugh from Molly and Me Candles and The Story Weaver, Fionnuala Cassidy invite you to combine your… SCENTS and STORIES

  • What you’ll create: A hand-poured seasonal soy wax candle and botanical melts, infused with a fragrance that evokes memories and a keepsake story card capturing the memory behind your scent.
  • What’s included: All materials, guidance from Sharron (Molly and Me Candles) and Fionnuala (The Story Weaver), refreshments, and gift-ready packaging.

Location Details

The Cassandra Hand Folk & Famine Centre is located in the old Round Tower School situated in the historic town of Clones, Co. Monaghan, and was built in 1859 by Cassandra Hand with proceeds from Clones Lace. Clones Lace was a famine relief initiative introduced by Cassandra after she arrived in Clones in 1847 during the worst years of the Great Famine.

With the beautiful image of Clones Round Tower visible through the classroom windows to the front, the remains of Clones Abbey on one side and the remains of a Norman Motte and Bailey on the other, the Folk and Famine Centre is centrally located as a stopping point to explore the town.

Address - Abbey Lane, Crossmoyle, Clones, County Monaghan, H23 PC60
