Event description

Description

Community engagement has the potential to play a transformative role in developing positive outcomes for young learners at school. In this area, school governors can make a real difference to their institution.

Responsibility for a school to effectivley engage with the community has become an increasing area of significance for school governors. The 2017 DfE Governance Handbook states 'all boards have a crucial role to play in connecting their school with the wider community.' Furthermore, there is a duty for schools to promote community cohesion under the Education and Inspections Act 2006 in light of their local circumstances.

Led by Citizens UK, this interactive breakfast session will explore the role of innovative community organising techniques and how governors can introduce them into their schools. Attendees will experience how institutions can connect with their local community in an effective, democratic and meaninful way.

Breakfast and light refreshments will be provided.

This free event is open to all those interested in school governance, community engagement and community organising techniques.
