Overview

Join Scottish Book Trust to hear more about how Reading Schools can support your school improvement planning.

This exclusive professional learning session will highlight how you can use our Reading Schools accreditation programme to support your school's improvement planning. You will hear from learning professionals with strategic overview both at school/local authority level, who are participating in Reading Schools, and we will also be joined by Professor Sarah McGeown, Professor of Literacy (Psychology & Education) in Moray House School of Education and Sport.

The session will give an overview of the research on the benefits of building a reading culture in your school and highlight evidence-based approaches to implement. It will cover how the Reading Schools programme can be integrated into your school's priorities and provide insights on the programme's impact on educational outcomes. There will also be the opportunity to share approaches, successes and challenges from participants.

This session is aimed at school leadership teams or staff responsible for input into their school's improvement planning. It will be held as a meeting on Microsoft Teams. For the best experience, we recommend joining the webinar using the Microsoft Teams app rather than using the browser.

Reading Schools is a national accreditation programme for schools which are committed to building a reading culture with and for their learners and communities. Research indicates that reading for pleasure positively impacts on learners' attainment across the curriculum, supports wellbeing, critical thinking, creativity, empathy and resilience.

NB: We have two self-directed e-learning modules containing curated elements to help give programme participants the relevant knowledge to commence and achieve their Reading Schools accreditation. These can be found here.
