Speaking Up and Effective Escalation

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please note that this course is free for Guy's and St Thomas' staff only. External candidates, please contact School of Improvement team.


The following topics are covered:

  • Why speaking up is important for patient safety

  • Awareness of the role of the Freedom to Speak up Guardian and Speaking up Advocates

  • Barriers to speaking up

  • How to escalate your concerns when you are not being heard

  • How to create an environment that empowers people to speak up

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Tube or Train

The nearest stations are:

London Bridge - Northern and Jubilee lines (five minutes' walk)

Monument - District and Circle lines (15 minutes' walk)

By Car

Guy's Hospital is located in the Congestion Charging zone and parking is very limited. Please use public transport whenever possible.

From Monday-Friday, 8.30am-4.30pm, parking in the Guy's car park is only available for disabled patients. Vehicles can only access the car park from Snowsfields and not from St Thomas Street.

By Bus

The following buses stop at London Bridge, London Bridge station or near Guy's Hospital:

17, 21, 35, 40, 43, 47, 48, 133, 141, 149, 343, 381, 521, 701, RV1, C10.


What can I bring to the event?

Just yourself, no preparation is required and all materials are provided on the day.
