School of Spirit Life at The Lighthouse - SPIRIT LIFE THEOLOGY : theology without ceilings

About this Event

How do we approach the Bible and other Christian texts for 21st C spiritual living? How do we build a theology without limits?

Spirit Life Theology (SLT) will provide a dynamic space to engage with the scriptures and important writing for Christian life and thinking. SLT will explore a spiritual understanding of life such as the first followers of Jesus would have had.There is no prior academic requirement to join SLT.

Those enrolling will need to have attended (or be currently attending) Part 1 of Spirit Life Foundations (SLF) - see https://slfoundation.eventbrite.co.uk

Spirit Life Theology will comprise three separate modules of 4/5 sessions covering one book or text.

Spirit Life Theology will be held on alternate Wednesday evenings from October 2019 until June 2020 - see https://www.lighthouselondon.org/spirit-life-course for more details

FREE INTRO EVENING: September 25th at 7pm

SLT COURSE PRICE: £100 per module or £250 for the year, which includes the Spirit Life Conference in June 2020.

Tutor to SLT: Stephen Backhouse PhD, Theologian to SOSL, Director and primary teacher of Tent Theology

Stephen is the Director and primary teacher of Tent Theology. For over two decades he has been delivering real theology to thousands of Christians around the world in churches, universities, schools, festivals, political party conferences, youth camps, newspapers, magazines, television and podcasts. Stephen has a doctorate from the University of Oxford and multiple master’s degrees from McGill University in Montreal and Oxford, where he also did his undergraduate studies in philosophy and theology. Stephen travels extensively. He has lived in the United States, and makes his home in Britain and Canada. He is a historian of Christian thought, an expert on the work of Søren Kierkegaard and a recognised authority on the political theology of nations and nationalism. He is the author of many publications, including Kierkegaard’s Critique of Christian Nationalism (OUP: 2011), the Compact Guide to Christian History (Lion: 2011) and the award-winning popular biography Kierkegaard: A Single Life (Zondervan: 2016). His latest book is the Essential Companion to Christian History (Zondervan: 2019)
