COURSE OUTLINE

Whether local, international, private or public, all schools are affected by the pressure to offer internationally relevant curricula, to educate students as global citizens and to meet international educational standards. In this inspirational and challenging course, Dr Stephen Whitehead will guide delegates in understanding the international environment in which we all now work.

With relevance to teachers, school leaders and school owners, this engaging day promises to inspire debate and encourage discussion. Are ‘international schools’ really any more international than so-called ‘local’ schools. Is offering an international curriculum enough? And, what about having an ‘international’ student body?

Practically-orientated, but grounded in current theory, the course will challenge you to develop a framework for thinking about how your school or classroom is affected by the international dimension of modern schooling.

You will leave the course:

  • Aware of current trends in ‘international’ education.

  • Better understanding Human Resource issues in schools, especially when operating internationally and/or employing international staff.

  • Having undertaken a Professional Development needs analysis of your school.

  • Aware of how globalization is changing the nature of school leadership and its impact on staff.

  • With better knowledge of accreditation – for both international and local schools.

  • Aware of the expansion of international schools in Asia and the implications for managers and teachers.
