Event Details

Schools across the North West are invited to attend a celebratory festival, hosted by the region's Bridge organisation: Curious Minds. 

This event recognises the achievements made by schools committed to the delivery of high quality arts and culture for children and young people. The day will include:

  • Keynote: Sam Cairns - Cultural Learning Alliance - Cultural Capital 
  • A celebration of schools who have achieved their Artsmark level since september 2018 with Jessica Farmer, Arts Council England Senior Relationship Manager, CYP in the North
  • A 'Cultural Marketplace' with a broad range of arts and cultural organisations who will be on hand to discuss your school’s arts and cultural needs and how they can support you
  • Opportunities to network, make new connections and form relationships.

  • Primary - David Wearing - Principal Kelsal Primary & Rachael Borman ,Teacher and Director AmaSing 
  • Secondary -  Steve Cook - Formby High School - Artsmark Platinum School 
  • SEND Sheena Edwards – Peterhouse Schools & Arts Co-ordinator Autism Initiatives - Using the arts to promote life skills & support communication and behaviour in SEN
  • Artsmark Partners sharing how they have developed partnerships with schools

Creative education workshops

  • Funding the arts in your school  - Steph Hawke, Curious Minds Senior Manager External Funding and Policy

  • African drumming music and singing - Steve Cook - and the Mundo Afrika Choir 
  • Developing Creativity in your Arts Award Projects - Formby High ‘Creative Ambassador’ Students  & Vicci Harrocks - Community Arts Coordinator 
  • into Film - Discover how to use film in the classroom to enhance your pupils’ literacy, speaking and listening skills - www.intofilm.ort
  • Creative Habits of Mind - Robert Meadows - Philip Barker Trust & Betty Richie the Bluecoat 

Delegates will be able to chose from two sessions as well as a scheduled time slot in the Marketplace (choosing sessions will take place when the programe is fully confirmed) 

Refreshments and lunch will be served on the day.  This event is heavily subsidised by Arts Council England  Bridge Funding.

The festival will be taking place in Manchester's Whitworth Art Gallery, with guests having the opportunity to explore all that this wonderful cultural venue has to offer until 5pm.  For further information about the venue, please see below:

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

If arriving by train:

The nearest train station will be Manchester Oxford Road.  On leaving the train station turn right onto Oxford Road, heading South away from the City Centre.  Continue along Oxford Road past the Aquatics Centre and the University.  The Whitworth is located on the right opposite the University Hospital.

If arriving by car:

Coming from the M60 direction.  Leave the M60 at J3 and turn left onto the A34 Kingsway.  At the roundabout take the 1st exit at the roundabout onto Moseley Road.  Then take the second right onto Wilmslow Road.  Continue along Wilmslow Road as it turns into Oxford Road.  The Whitworth is located on the left.

Coming from the City Centre.  Leaving the A57(M) Mancunian Way at the Cambridge Street roundabout head onto Higher Cambridge Street, heading South, away from the City Centre.  Continue along the road as it turns into Lloyd Street North.  Then, turn left onto Denmark road and continue until the end of the Road.  Turn right onto Oxford Road and the Whitworth is located on the right.

Car Parking

There is no parking at the gallery itself, but there are car parks located on Grafton Street and there is also a multistorey car park located on Hathersage Road, off Oxford Road.
