Event description
Join us for free drinks and nibbles at King’s Cross and explore the concept of time

About this Event

Timekeeping is fundamentally important to modern life, not only in planning, logging and navigating our activities but also because time measurements underpin many modern technologies enabling science and quality of life.

Dr Kathryn Burrows, part of the National Physical Laboratory Time and Frequency Group, will be speaking on the concept of time itself, and how the NPL can measure time more accurately than any other quantity. This is an introductory talk on our understanding and measurement of time, universal time coordinated (UTC), the 24-hour time standard that uses atomic clocks combined with the Earth's rotation. It is operated by the Time and Frequency Group at NPL. This is the UK’s official time scale

Join our free drinks reception at the Institute of Physics and enjoy Time Tries All Things – a poetic and lyrical meditation of time by Irish artist and filmmaker Grace Weir.

A free evening event for adults aged 18+
