Event description

Description

Tuesday 17 January / 6:30pm / The Box / FREE, booking required

Oh yes there is

Gravity not only keeps us from floating into space, but it provides us with a way to explore the invisible universe; black holes, Dark Matter and much more. Here Professor Andy Newsam, Professor of Astronomy Education and Engagement at Liverpool John Moores University, will discuss some of the many ways that gravity shapes both the universe around us, and our understanding of it.

Who Needs Gravity?

Science-fiction writers have imagined numerous ways of overcoming gravity and escaping the Earth's pull. Andy Sawyer, Librarian of the Science-Fiction Foundation Collection, University of Liverpool Library, will look at some of the ways science-fiction has imagined antigravity devices and coping with high-gravity environments.
