Event Information
About this Event
For the second of our Autumn Science in the (virtual) Atrium Series, Inverness Royal Academy and Institute of Physics in Scotland present .......
Space Hub Sutherland – the UK’s first space port
with
David Howie, Programme Director - Space Hub Sutherland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
In July 2018, the United Kingdom Space Agency (UKSA) chose the Mhoine in Sutherland as the site of the UK’s first ‘vertical launch’ facility. The project is being led by Highlands and Islands Enterprise and plans to see its first launches in 2022. The talk will cover the plans for the facility and how Scotland is leading in ‘New Space’ with the tantalising prospect of Scottish satellites on Scottish rockets being launched from a Scottish spaceport in the next few years.
David will be joined by a special guest speaker from Orbex in Forres.
We are also hoping but this is yet to be confirmed that if you attend Inverness Royal Academy - you will be able to listen out for the code at the end of the webinar and swap it for a locally famous ring shaped cake from a local bakery at Fairways on the day after the webinar. Up to 50 may be available. Watch this space.
If you attend another school in the Highlands - let your physics teacher know you want cake, and maybe, just maybe, we can do the same at a cake shop local to you. We need numbers and a designated cake shop and we shall see what we can do. Your teacher can email us as at scienceintheatrium@gmail.com. Very sorry no GF options this year.
