In teaching curriculum 2014 teachers are being encouraged to move away from accelerating children through the curriculum. Instead they are being required to focus on ensuring all children master what they are taught in order to reach National standard. During the day we will identify what is required of children for them to be judged as having reached National Standard by the end of KS1 and KS2 in science. We will share practical ideas and activities on how to ensure this approach is adopted when teaching science lessons. We will explore how this approach differs slightly for the “knowledge content” and “working scientifically” area of the curriculum. We will offer advice on how to revisit and reinforce key concepts and ideas with those children finding the work challenging whilst ensuring those children who have mastered it to continue to increase their ability to think and work scientifically.
