About Chris Hatherill
Chris Hatherill is a freelance journalist and editor who, having started his career working for the likes of Vice and Sleazenation, set up pop science agency super/collider in 2006 to explore science from a pop cultural perspective.
super/collider is an independent agency which explores science from a creative standpoint.
Working as and with journalists, illustrators, photographers, filmmakers, artists and designers they champion scientific subjects ranging from Astronomy to Zoology. Though super/collider has become a nebulous, ever-changing science project, our main areas of work include: projects, events, publishing and products.
About Shelley James
The glass artist Shelley James will discuss her work with psychologists, crystallographers and musicians that combines the graphic power of pattern with the optical and material qualities of glass to explore perception of space.
Shelley James’s work combines the graphic range of print with the optical qualities of glass to explore the fugitive nature of spatial perception and the shifting boundaries between appearance and experience, material and virtual space.
Originally trained in textiles at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs in Paris, she began working in corporate design for international clients including Visa International, Shell and Habitat.
After embarking on an MA in Printmaking, a desire to explore the theme of identity from a more personal perspective led her to start experimenting with medical scans. Research into the structures of the visual pathway led to an ongoing Residency with the Bristol Eye Hospital and experiments in glass, supported by the National Glass Centre in Sunderland.
Awards from the Wellcome Trust, Crafts Council England and the Helen Hamlyn Foundation have led to her current AHRC-funded PhD at the RCA in London.
