ROUTINE3S ARTIST WORKSHOPS

Another fantastic opportunity to learn from one of the ROUTIN3S artists.

Scoring with the Body - Creative Workshop - a space to explore using the body to make art.

Breakdown:

Warm up - led by professional yoga and dance teacher, feeling into our bodies, and invoking the mind-body connection for creative expression.

Self exploration - using mirrors and phones, participants will be encouraged to sketch or take photos of their bodies from new angles, in new positions. There will be the option to pair up if preferred. This will be an opportunity to shift our perspectives on our bodies - finding perspectives that are about interest and engagement, rather than conventional beauty standards.

Final product -several small tubs of alginate, and fast setting plaster, will be laid out for those who prefer to make small casts. Large sheets will be laid out with pens and charcoal to layer body outlines and shapes to create larger pieces. There will also be the option to work from the earlier sketches or photos if preferred. Casts will be hand finished by the artist and collected at a later date.

Benefits:

  • Improved body image
  • Embodiment and creative Expression are two of the best ways to improve mental health - by combining them both, participants will learn tools for essential self care.
  • A beautiful, unique creation to take home!

Maddie Mellon Artist Bio:

I'm a multidisciplinary artist, working with my body, oil paints, watercolours and most recently stained glass. I've trained with National Theatre, Wise Children, Arts University Bournemouth; and graduated with a BA (Hons) in Theatre Practice from Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in 2018, and was a director of Bold Mellon Collective until 2024.

I want to distort and interrogate what is perceived as calm, sensual or private, and fundamentally reclaim portrayals of disability and the female form in the spheres of both movement and exhibition. As a soft tissue therapist and yoga teacher, I'm intrigued by the relationship between the human body and identity. My current focus is aligning my healing practice with my artistic one: finding a balance between expression of trauma and challenge, and this being presented to its audience as part of a healing experience.

Photography and Filming take place during workshops and gallery opening times. Please let us know if you do not want to be on film. All material captured is used for either our social media or future promotion.

Firepit is a unique space, we have a gallery of beautiful and relevant art, artist studio spaces and a community event space. We will hold the workshop on a large communal table, next to the windows. You are in the heart of the gallery here and are surrounded by inspirational art.
