Online panel discussion examining ownership of Scotland’s landscape, both imaginary and practical

About this event

Join our online panel discussion to talk about the ownership of Scotland’s landscape, both imaginary and practical. Come and explore urban imaginaries and rural utopias, regeneration and land ownership, histories and futures of landscape, all asking the question: whose Scotland is it anyway?

This panel discussion is presented by the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at the University of Edinburgh and is part of Explorathon 2021.

Dr Hamish Kallin (Chair): Lecturer in Human Geography at the University of Edinburgh's School of Geosciences. His work focuses on the myriad ways in which capitalism remakes the landscape.

Professor Glenda Norquay:  Professor of Scottish Literary Studies at Liverpool John Moores University and Director of their Research Institute for Literature and Cultural History. She publishes in two main areas: Robert Louis Stevenson studies and Scottish women’s writings.

Dr Alycia Pirmohamed: Junior Anniversary Fellow at IASH. In 2020, Alycia was the winner of the Edwin Morgan Poetry Award. Alycia was the winner of the 2020 Pamet River Prize and her debut poetry collection, Another Way to Split Water is forthcoming with YesYes Books in 2022.

Andy Wightman: Writer, researcher, analyst, commentator and activist on issues of land, power, governance, democracy and money. Over the past 20 years, he has undertaken a wide range of work on land tenure, landownership, land reform and, more recently community land rights, governance and the hegemonic dimensions of land relations. Andy was elected MSP for the Lothian region in 2016.

The Explorathon project has received funding from the European Commission under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions programme - grant agreement No 101036101.
