Course Overview

The two-day Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid course will improve your knowledge and understanding of mental health and teaches skills for providing initial help to people experiencing thoughts of suicide or mental health problems such as self-harming, anxiety, depression and psychosis.

Using volunteer film clips, activities and group discussion you will build your confidence and develop the skills to give immediate help to a person in distress by applying the ALGEE framework, until suitable professional help can be found.

Participants receive the Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid attendance certificate on completion.
 

Learning Outcomes

 By the end of the course you will have a greater understanding of:

  • The recovery message
  • The impact of alcohol and drugs on mental health
  • Self-harming
  • Suicide intervention
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Psychosis
  • Applying the ALGEE framework as a mental health first-aider
  • What to do and say in a crisis
  • Signposting to professional help
  • Listening Skills
  • Understanding of and how to offer first aid to someone experiencing depression, anxiety or a psychotic episode
  • Know what to say and do in a crisis

 Participants will receive Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid Manual and supporting handouts.

 Other Information

This course takes place over two days, each day runs from 9am - 4pm.

Tea,coffee and biscuits will be provided, however delegates are required to bring their own lunch. There is a competitively priced Cafe onsite for those wishing to purchase a warm or fresh lunch, however please note that this is a cash-only cafe.

FDAMH Training Academy

FDAMH Training Academy provides expert training courses to people across Scotland on the subject of mental health and wellbeing.

Aiming to reduce the stigma attached to mental health, and educate people across the country on how to improve and maintain their wellbeing, FDAMH Training Academy offers courses on a range of subjects; from Mindfulness for Wellbeing , through to Understanding Eating DisordersIntroduction to Counselling Skills and Keeping Yourself Mentally Well workshops.

To date, FDAMH Training Academy has helped more than 900 delegates deepen their knowledge of mental health, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to build their confidence and further their personal growth.

FDAMH Training Academy was originally established in August 2015 under FDAMH, Falkirk’s Mental Health Association.
