This is a two day course held on 18th & 25th August 2017

Aims of the course

Mental Health First Aid is like any other type of first aid and is the help given to a person before appropriate professional help or treatment can be obtained.

The course trains people to be pro-active. You will be aware of: how to ask about suicide, how the recognise the signs of mental health problems or distress, how to provide initial help, and how to guide a person towards appropriate professional help.


Objectives of the course
By the end of the training participants will have considered:
-Attitudes: to understand the role that stigma and discrimination play in mental health
-Recovery: to realise that recovery is possible
-Alcohol and Drugs: how they affect our mental health
-Suicide: how to ask about it
-Listening Skills: how to listen in a non - judgemental way
-Self-harm: understanding self harming behaviours
-Depression: understanding depression
-Anxiety: understanding various anxiety disorders
-Psychosis: understanding the impact of psychosis.

Trainer Information

Emily Justice is a very experienced mental health trainer and is also a russian translator.

Alan Burnett is the Learning & Development Assistant at Health In Mind with over 30 years of lived dexperience of meatal health Issues.

Terms and conditions

This course is at the Arthur Conan Doyle Centre, which is a bright venue with a cafe in the building, the course teas, coffee throughout the day. It is not fully accessible for wheelchair users, please contact us if you need us to relocate.

Training booking on Eventbrite are best paid by credit or debit card using Visa, Mastercard or American express. In exceptional circumstances, credit facilities may be available. Please contact the organiser to discuss your request at training@health-in-mind.org.uk or 0131 225 8508.

If you need to cancel your booking and give more than two weeks’ notice, we will refund your payment in full. If you cancel with less than two weeks’ notice, we will refund 50% of your fee.
