About this event

6th Scottish Biomedical Postdoctoral Researcher Conference

Organised by postdoc societies at Institute of Genetics and Cancer (University of Edinburgh), CRUK Beatson Institute (University of Glasgow) and the MRC PPU (University of Dundee).

Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th of September, 1.00 – 4.30pm

This two-afternoon event aims to provide biomedical postdocs with the opportunity to showcase their research. It will bring together early-career researchers from institutes across the whole of Scotland, with PhD students and researchers of all experience levels welcome to attend and participate in networking opportunities. Our programme includes a generous number of short talk slots for postdoctoral researchers, and a virtual poster and networking session on the exciting and intuitive videogame-style platform "Gathertown".

There will be prizes up for grabs for the best talks, best posters, and even an 'audience engagement' prize for the best questions!

Our excellent line-up of invited speakers includes:

  • Keynote speaker Professor Lea Goentoro from Caltech. Her research focuses on understanding complex biological systems, from small protein circuits, signalling pathways, developmental programs, to entire organisms. In her keynote, she will discuss a breakthrough study from her lab where limb regeneration was induced in three different organisms via conserved mechanisms mediated by L-leucine administration together with sucrose or insulin.

  • Dr. Lara Campana who will talk about her extraordinary career, from a postdoc at The University of Edinburgh to co-founder of Resolution Therapeutics. Resolution Therapeutics aims to use cell therapies to treat inflammatory organ disease, and Lara is now on the list of top 50 Female Entrepreneurs to Watch in the UK!

  • Promega UK, who will present some of their new and exciting emerging technologies.

Presentations will be selected from abstracts by the organising committee, the deadline for abstract submissions is 16th August.
