Event description

"A great experience, I would pay to come again if I wasn’t a group delegate.” 2018 Delegate

Don’t miss out, join us in Dunblane in 2019 for an exciting and interesting weekend of walks, talks, workshops, elections, discussion and socialising with members from across Scotland.

Scottish Council is the annual opportunity for members to gather from all over Scotland to debate, discuss and formally review our work, hear about inspiring new initiatives, meet fellow Ramblers from our 54 groups and stand for election to get involved in the running of the organisation.

If you are passionate about the outdoors and have ideas about how we can get more people walking in Scotland, please consider standing for election to the Scottish Council Executive Committee or Agenda Committeee. Any Ramblers Scotland member, who has been a member since 10 March 2018 or earlier, is eligible to stand. Further details here.

Scottish Council offers plenty to enjoy, view the full draft programme here.

Highlights include:

  • An illustrated lecture by Peter Cairns, SCOTLAND: The Big Picture. Project director, photographer and cameraman, Peter will share his bold vision for a wilder Scotland.

  • Updates on GB developments and Ramblers Scotland’s work over the last year

  • An introduction to Assemble, a new platform for volunteers

  • Updates on our digital and data transformation programme and roadmap for 2019/20

  • Workshops for you to learn and share practice

  • Motions and policy issues and the opportunity ask questions of the Scottish Council Executive Committee

  • Celebrating group successes and hear from the winner of the 2018 Scottish Council Challenge about their exciting project and achievements

  • Enjoy a dinner with fellow members from across Scotland

  • And enjoy walks, fun activities and use of the hotel pool and leisure facilities!

All members are welcome to attend. Only people representing their area, group, or affiliated organisation along with honorary officers, members of SCEC and agenda committee will be able to vote at the conference. We urge every area and group to send delegates.

  • Each group can send one voting delegate.

  • Each area can send two voting delegates.

  • Honorary officers and members of SCEC and the agenda committee, as well as 3 members of the board of trustees can attend.

  • Affiliated organisations can send one voting delegate.

Scottish Council represents an opportunity to discuss and debate any matters of importance to Ramblers Scotland. One way to find out if your opinion is shared by other Ramblers throughout Scotland is to have a debate followed by a vote. If you have an idea for something Ramblers Scotland should be doing, or a policy it should be pursuing, or if a matter is felt to be of national relevance, a formal motion to Scottish Council is a possible approach. Areas, groups and affiliated organisations can propose motions which will then be debated at Scottish Council. Motions must be submitted by Mon 4 Feb. Find out more here

There is no cost to attend Scottish Council during the day, however there are accommodation costs if staying over, outlined below.

If you are the official representative from your area, group, affiliated group or are an honorary officer, member of SCEC, the agenda committee or board of trustees the accommodation is free if you are prepared to share a room with another official representative.

If however you'd like a room on your own, there is a single room supplement of £42.50 – this applies to all official delegates.

Non voting members and guests must cover their own transport and overnight costs. These can be paid for by yourself or out of your area or group funds, if agreed beforehand with either your group or area.

If you are paying your own accommodation, the cost is £52.50 each for a shared room and £95 for a single room. (This includes dinner, bed and breakfast)

Please note there is a fixed and limited number of rooms, priority will be given to those travelling a distance to attend.

Payment for accommodation should be sent to Ramblers Scotland no later than Friday 8 February 2019. Please either:

  • send a cheques, made payable to Ramblers' Association Scotland, to Jeannie Cranfield, Ramblers Scotland, Caledonia House, 1 Redheughs Rigg, South Gyle, Edinburgh. EH12 9DQ

  • or send bank transfer to Unity Trust Bank, Sort Code: 60-83-01, Bank Account: 20124380. Please use your surname and the reference SC19 with this transfer.

Whilst we cover travel and accommodation for each official area and group delegate who attends, it is expected that, where possible, official delegates will share transport to minimise costs to Ramblers Scotland.

We do not pay expenses for other members, representatives from affiliated groups or additional persons attending the conference. Your transport costs should be covered either by yourself or by the Area or Group, if agreed in advance.

Registration on Saturday 9 March and will be open from 11.00am in the foyer of the conference suite in the hotel followed by a buffet lunch at 12noon - 1pm. The formal business of Scottish Council will commence at 1pm.
