Speaker Biographies

Prof Nancy Lombard’s research, in the main, looks at violence, gender and young people. Her findings have generated policy change and investment in gender equality programmes across health, education and the voluntary sector. She is currently co-leading a large European study (Horizon 2020) project looking at innovative solutions to eliminate domestic abuse. Prof Lombard sits on the editorial board of the internationally recognised Violence Against Women journal and the advisory board of the Journal of Gender Based Violence.

Dr Katy Proctor (she/her) has been lecturing at Glasgow Caledonian University since 2015. She is co-convenor of the Gender Research and Inequalities Research Network. Having spent over ten years working within the third sector as a support worker in both voluntary and paid roles, her research is influenced strongly by victim-centred support principles.

Dr Emma Forbes is a senior prosecutor with over twenty years’ experience, specialising in aspects of gender-based violence and child abuse. She was the first full time Depute in Glasgow’s pilot domestic abuse court (2004-2006) and is an accredited domestic abuse prosecutor. She is currently part of the team conducting a review into COPFS’ investigation and prosecution of sexual offences. Her book Victims’ Experiences of the Criminal Justice Response to Domestic Abuse: Beyond GlassWalls is based on PhD research (Glasgow, 2019). She founded GlassWalls, a collaborative community art project. As a Scottish Justice Fellow, she developed an interactive timeline of Scotland’s response to domestic abuse between 1970 and 2020, which is available at www.glasswallsart.com

Katy Mathieson is the Director of Justice Services at Rape Crisis Scotland, working closely with the Scottish Women’s Rights Centre and the RCS National Advocacy Project. Katy has worked in a variety of roles within the Rape Crisis movement over the last 20+ years including as the RCS Helpline Manager and as the SWRC Co-ordinator.
