Problem solving in management of endodontic disease. A practical guide to making things easier and predictable.

Overview

Update on contemporary endodontic practice looking at modern canal shaping, cleaning and obturation techniques, with a focus on practical advice for a successful outcome.

Course Aim

This programme discusses the diagnosis and clinical management of endodontic disease in dental practice.

Course Objectives

This programme discusses different concepts of canal shaping in modern endodontology. It will highlight the the background to endodontic disease and how successful treatment is related to predictable consistent canal shaping combined with efficient canal disinfection with irrigants. Problem solving will form a key component of the programme recognising the day to day issues and frustrations that the management of endodontic disease can entail.The programme will also present an overview on the requirements for an ideal obturation with an evaluation of the single cone technique and the use of contemporary bioceramic sealers.


Course Learning Outcomes

  • Be familiar with different concepts of canal shaping
  • Be aware of the importance of consistent canal shaping
  • Know how to decide which canal shaping technique is appropriate for individual cases
  • Problem solving in management of endodontic disease

  • Indications for the use of different obturation techniques
  • An awareness of obturation materials including contemporary sealers

GDC Development Outcomes A and C

Dr Mike Horrocks (BDS MSc) qualified in 1984 from Liverpool. He completed an MSc in Endodontics at University of Manchester in 2000. Mike runs a private endodontic referral practice in Altrincham, Cheshire and is the senior partner in simplyendo, providing quality endodontic training to general dental practitioners from a new teaching facility in Formby, just North of Liverpool. Mike is also programme director for the MSc in Endodontology at The University of Chester, providing a part time modular Masters programme in endodontology aimed primarily at busy general dental practitioners aspiring to improve the quality of their knowledge in the field of endodontology.
