About this event
It is important that the Voluntary sector in Edinburgh responds to the review to help refine or change proposals and allow the Scottish Mental Health Law Review to put together a final set of recommendations for the Scottish Government later this year.
Mental illness is one of the major public health challenges in Scotland. Around one in three people are estimated to be affected by mental illness in any one year. Many more of us know, care for and support people who are affected by mental illness.
The Scottish Mental Health Law Review consultation relates to all people who have been, or could in the future be, subjected to mental health legislation, their unpaid carers and families and all those who work in mental health, learning disability, autism, dementia, brain injury services and the legal profession (Scottish Mental Health Law Review Consultation, March 2022).
The Scottish Mental Health Law Review could therefore have an impact on most, if not all of our lives and hence it’s important that as many of us as possible engage with the consultation process and provide feedback on the proposed changes to mental health and incapacity law.
