Scottish Mountain Biking Conference 2014 - Innovation Edition
Innovate: Make changes in something established, especially by introducing new methods, ideas, or products.
The 2016 Scottish Mountain Bike Conference will be focussing on innovations in mountain biking, both from within Scotland and the latest innovations across the world. Innovation is traditionally associated with developing new physical products but we believe that the etho’s and attitude which are required to help progression and improvements can be applied to tourism, sport, increasing participation, alongside product development.
The internationally acclaimed conference will be held over 3 days and will follow the format of the highly successful 2014 conference.
The opening day (17th November) will focus on innovations, new thinking and an update on developments related to mountain biking tourism and economic development.
A full and exciting programme of speakers and workshops will be followed by the first ever Scottish MTB awards evening.
The second day (18th November) will cover new developments, innovations and an update on progress in mountain biking participation and sport development. Again, a full programme of inspirational speakers and informative workshops will be delivered during the day.
Afterwards there will be the opportunity for everyone to let their hair down at a Scottish BBQ and a film & photography evening which will use the MacDonald Hotel 4K cinema.
The last day of the conference will offer delegates the exciting opportunity to attend a variety of field visits to view good practice and discuss improvements on mountain bike trails across the Highlands including the UK’s only Enduro World Series qualifier at Kinlochleven.
Like the 2014 conference, we are anticipating an international audience and there will be a whole host of highly acclaimed speakers. We are delighted to announce, for example, that the legend that is Gary Fisher who is widely considered to be one of the inventors of the modern day mountain bike and a pioneer in the sport of mountain biking, has agreed to speak about innovation in the sport. Dr Geraint Florida-James, Edinburgh Napier University/Mountain Bike Centre of Scotland, is at the forefront of Scottish innovations and will talk about how the development of new products and working with international brands is fostering a culture of innovation in Scottish mountain biking businesses. A full programme will be announced over the next few months.
The 3 day conference will promote and highlight innovations in mountain biking and how they will help mountain biking progress both in Scotland and internationally. It will be an integral part of promoting Scotland in the 2016 Year of Innovation, Architecture & Design.
Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland (DMBinS) will be the lead organiser of this international event. After a successful conference in 2014 which attracted 230 delegates from 13 different countries. DMBinS will be in working partnership with VisitScotland, Highland Council, Cairngorms National Park Authority and the Cairngorms Business Partnership to deliver an exceptional conference.
The biennial conference will be on 17th – 19th November 2016 and will be hosted at the MacDonald Hotel, Aviemore.
