Spring is just round the corner and this year's bee season brings exciting plans for SNHBS!

We are building on last year's fantastic workshops and the enthusiasm of our members to undertake an ambitious survey of Scotland’s honey bees.

The Spring Meeting will focus on the organisation and scope of the survey and we will introduce to members the team responsible and the plan for the coming years. There will be opportunity to volunteer to help and get involved! We will also discuss our plans to distribute young larvae for grafting.

The event is exclusively for SNHBS members. You can sign up on the day but will not be able to vote at the meeting unless already a member before you get there.

Per Kryger, Aarhus University, Denmark.

Per is a Danish scientist working in the SMARTBEES and other projects. He will give us an update on progress exploring genetic variation in honey bees and on the tools becoming available for breeders.

Jon Getty, Native Irish Honey Bee Society.

Jon is secretary of the Belfast Beekeepers Association and the webmaster of NIHBS. He will share his extensive knowledge of queen rearing and the use of mini-nuclei.

Ian Lennox, Coordinator of the new project on assessing the status of native honey bees in Scotland.

Ian will report on the activities of a newly formed group to support this project and on the progress expected in 2018.

Business meeting:

Report from the Chair on SNHBS activities since the launch and a look ahead to 2018 and beyond.

Financial report; Members’ forum; Changes to the Constitution; Election of the new board.

Importantly we will be having our AGM where committee members will be elected. Please consider joining the committee this year! We will be seeking new input into the committee to cover some important roles. The existing committee has had a great year setting up the society and arranging workshops but new ideas and enthusiasm are always required.
